Review #1 A&W Root Beer

Review #1 A&W Root Beer

This root beer is sub-par. It just is too much vanilla, not much of anything else. You want a variety of flavor in root beer. Wikipedia describes a good root beer to feature any number of the following flavors:

vanilla, wintergreen, cherry tree bark, licorice root, sarsaparilla root, nutmeg, acacia, anise, molasses, cinnamon, sweet birch, and honey.
In addition to the above, I've also tasted hints of peat, raspberry, peach, and tobacco in several less common root beers.

So I mean, vanilla is on the list but there are so many other flavors too. A&W just likes its vanilla so much I guess that it just forgets about all the others that make a good root beer root beer.

If you want a good root beer, try a craft variety. Not gonna shout out any particular brand but you can usually find one in a natural grocery or a local brewery, which are two local businesses I would always recommend visiting. If you must go big brand, you can do better elsewhere. At least Barq's has bite. Whoa. Seriously though it's objectively better if you want more flavors than vanilla. I've only had its diet but even that has some wintergreen and sarsaparilla going on.

A&W Root Beer Overall Score: 2/5

Instead of drinking this sub-par soda, I found that Virgil's is the top rated on the interwebs. According to Art of Manliness, it rates better than all of the root beers they tried! If you want to try it for yourself, buy A&W to taste and leave your opinions to the comments section please.
